Eight-month crude steel output up over 15%

Iran produced 13.44 million tons of crude steel in the first eight months of 2017, showing a growth of 15.72 percent compared to the figure for the same period in 2016, which was 11.62 million tons.

According to figures released by World Steel Association (WSA), China topped the list of crude steel producers in the period with 566.4 million tons.

Japan, India and the United States with 69.64 million tons, 66.46 million tons and 54.7 million tons respectively ranked second, third and fourth on the list, the report said.

In August, Iran produced 1.75 million tons of crude steel, which shows no change compared to output for July.

Global steel production in August amounted to 143.9 million tons indicating a 0.1-percent decline compared to the July output that reached 143.7 million tons.

WSA is the international trade body of the iron and steel industry. The association represents approximately 170 steel producers, including 17 of the world's 20 largest steel companies, national and regional steel industry associations and steel research institutes.

Its members account for around 85 percent of world steel production.
