Speaking at a meeting with Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem in Damascus on Wednesday. Chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Alaeddin Boroujerdi hailed recent advances of the Syrian Army and allied forces against terrorists in the Arab country, Tasnim News Agency reported.
“Iran will continue to back Syria in the fight against terrorism and its supporters until the realization of victory and restoration of peace and stability to this country, which is imminent, is celebrated, which is in the offing,” he stressed.
The Iranian lawmaker also stressed the need to promote parliamentary relations between Iran and Syria.
The Syrian foreign minister praised Iran’s continued support for his country and said Damascus will keep fighting against terrorism until all areas in Syria are liberated.
Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh terrorist group, currently controlling parts of it.
According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
In the meantime, Iran has remained a close ally of Syria and supports its legitimate government in the face of foreign-backed militancy.
