Tanzanian FM due in Tehran today

Tanzanian Foreign Minister Augustine Mahiga is scheduled to arrive in Tehran today for an official visit, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi said on Tuesday.

Heading a high-ranking delegation, the Tanzanian foreign minister is to hold talks with Iranian officials on issues of mutual interest, Qassemi said, according to IRNA.

He added that in addition to a meeting with President Hassan Rouhani, Mahiga is slated to meet Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and several other ministers.

The spokesman also said ways to promote bilateral relations between Tehran and Dodoma will be discussed during the meetings.

Expansion of relations with African nations in all political, economic and cultural fields is top on the agenda of Iran's foreign policy.

President Rouhani, who won a second term in May, has repeatedly stressed his government's interest in boosting relations with African states.
