Molaei's 'Kupal' awarded Canada accolades

Iranian drama 'Kupal', written and directed by Kazem Molaei, won the best feature award and best actor award (Levon Haftvan) at the 12th Hamilton Film Festival in Canada from November 4 to 12.

Molaei was nominated for best screenplay award and Majid Gorjian for best cinematography award, reported.

The flick narrates the story of a hunter and taxidermist who goes through an unfortunate incident just moments before the turn of the year.

The storyline of 'Kupal' and its tagline is, "you can't be alone in this world!"

Eight Iranian films were screened at the Canadian event. They included 'Kupal' in the feature film section, Ali Nikfar's 'Kayyam Khani' in the music film section, 'Numbness' by Milad Jarmuz in the experimental short film section, 'Servant' by Farnoush Abedi, 'Ascribed Achievements' by Samaneh Shojaei, 'Light Sight' by Moslem Tabatabai and 'Ruhangiz' by Elmira Baqerzadeh in the animated short section, 'Share of Share' by Kaveh Jahed in the drama short category.

The 12th annual Hamilton Film Festival screened a juried selection of local and international independent films. It hosted filmmakers traveling to the event from Australia, Austria, Iran, Cyprus, France, Germany, Italy, the US and all across Canada.
