Rouhani: Chabahar Port will enhance trade among regional countries

Iran's President Hassan Rouhani said the inauguration of the Port of Chabahar in southeastern Iran in the near future and its connection to Iran-Afghan railroad networks together and later to International North-South Transport Corridor will enhance trade among regional countries.

The North-South corridor is a 7,200-kilometer-long multimode network of ship, rail, and road route connecting India, Iran, Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Russia, Central Asia and Europe, Press TV reported.

In a Thursday phone conversation with his Afghan counterpart Ashraf Ghani, Rouhani underlined the importance of promoting Tehran-Kabul economic ties.

Ghani underscored the importance of stronger unity among Shia and Sunni in Afghanistan, noting that Kabul will never allow enemies to create division in the country.

Rouhani also called for restoring calm to neighboring Afghanistan, hailing Kabul's vigilance against divisive enemy plots in the region.

He expressed sorrow over the deaths caused by terrorist attacks in Afghanistan. "Fortunately, the Afghan government has adopted prudent positions in line with maintaining unity and neutralizing the plots aimed at sowing discord in the region.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran calls for peace, stability and sustainable security in Afghanistan and considers it in line with promoting its own security and to the benefit of the regional peace and stability," he added.

Rouhani underlined the need for an all-out campaign against narcotics production and trafficking, calling for extensive international cooperation to eradicate the phenomenon.
