The visit came a day before inauguration of the first phase of the Chabahar Port development project in the southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchestan, IRNA reported.
The two top diplomats discussed issues of mutual interest with both hailing growing bilateral ties.
Zarif said the inauguration “shows its importance in regional development” and linking Central Asian countries with other countries via the Sea of Oman and the Indian Ocean.
Iran's President Hassan Rouhani will inaugurate the project’s first phase today and Swaraj is to attend the event.
The first consignment of wheat from India to Afghanistan, which was flagged off by Swaraj and her Afghan counterpart Salahuddin Rabbani, had reached the Afghan city of Zaranj near the Iran-Afghanistan border last month via the Iranian port of Chabahar, thereby bypassing Pakistan.
The port would allow India to transport goods to Afghanistan by sea and provide access to Central Asia.
