“Sohrab Moardi’s gold medals and record-breaking and his other team members made all Iranians happy,” President Rouhani said in the message, IRNA reported.
He also wished more success for the Iranian team in the tournament.
The 29-year-old Moradi, who won gold in Rio last year, managed to break two world records after an easy win over Lithuania’s Aurimas Didzbalis.
The Iranian athlete also snatched two gold medals in the prestigious championship.
Moradi jumped from 220kg to 233kg on his fifth lift to break the clean and jerk world record of 232kg set in 2000 by Poland’s Szymon Kolecki, and better by four kilograms his own world record for the total, which he improved to 417kg.
Several weightlifters from Iran, Bulgaria, South Korea, Qatar, Egypt, Germany, US, Uzbekistan and Lithuania are competing in the championship in California from November 28 to December 5, 2017.
On September 23, Moradi also won gold medal of 94 kilogram class in weightlifting competitions at the 2017 Asian Indoor Games by setting a new record in the world.
Moradi lifted 176, 181 and 185 kilograms in snatch and lifted 220 kilograms in clean and jerk class, winning the record from a Greek weightlifter in the 94 category.
