Iran’s Mehdi Taremi joined Qatari club Al Gharafa on a year-and-a-half contract.
Some reports on Friday suggested the Iranian international agreed a $2.5 million deal with the Qatari Stars League side although the fee is yet to become officially disclosed.
The 26-year-old scored 18 goals in the 2016-17 Persian Gulf Pro League season to help the Tehran giant Persepolis clinch the title, finishing on top of the scoring chart for the second consecutive campaign.
representing Iran on 22 occasions, Taremi has scored 10 goals in the Iranian outfit including the second goal in a 2-0 victory over Uzbekistan in Tehran in June which sealed the Iranians successive qualification for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Taremi is serving a four-month ban by FIFA due to breaching his contract with the Turkish side Çaykur Rizespor which comes to an end by January 21.
Earlier in the week, Al Gharafa also signed the Dutch international and former Real Madrid and Inter midfielder Wesley Sneijder.
