Syrian army, allies make fresh gains in southwestern Aleppo

Syrian army forces, supported by allied fighters from popular defense groups, have recorded more victories in battles against terrorists from the Jabhat Fateh al-Sham Takfiri group, formerly known as al-Nusra Front, in the southern sector of the country’s northwestern province of Aleppo, inflicting stinging blows to the extremists.

Syria’s official news agency SANA reported that Syrian government troops and their allies had managed to recapture the villages of Jabal al-Modawar, Wadi al-Sanou'a, al-Na'amaniyeh, Boweizeh Saqireh, Moshrefeh al-Boweizetain, Boweizeh Kabireha and al-Wajed after storming militant positions there and engaging in heavy fighting with the Takfiris.

The report added that army soldiers and fighters from popular defense groups are now advancing toward the eastern side of the strategic road linking Tal al-Zaman region to Jabal al-Arbaeen area.

The forces have now tightened the siege on terrorists north of the town of Khanasir.

The territorial gains came a day after Syrian troops and their allies carried out fresh operations against militant strongholds in Aleppo province, liberating 13 towns, including Umm Anaksh, Salehiyah, Tell Soumeah, Hardana and al-Assadiyah, following bitter clashes with members of the Takfiri Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) terrorist group.

The media bureau of Syria’s Operations Command also announced in a statement that government troops and fighters from popular defense groups had established full control over a number of villages in al-Safirah district in Aleppo.

Syrian bomb disposal units also defused several booby-trapped houses in the town of Khanasir.

Syria has been gripped by foreign-backed militancy since March 2011. The Syrian government says the Israeli regime and its Western and regional allies are aiding Takfiri terrorist groups that are wreaking havoc in the country.
