Iran to launch petrochemical unit in Ilam soon

Iran is planning to launch a petrochemical sulfur dismantling unit in the western province of Ilam next spring, a senior energy official announced.

Managing Director of National Iranian Petrochemical Company Reza Norouzzadeh announced this during a visit to Ilam Petrochemical Complex, adding that the Ilam petrochemical sulfur degradation unit has made a very good progress in the past two years, Shana reported.

He said that the refinery's operations will be completed by March 20 and will be operational this spring.

Norouzzadeh noted that the progress of the two projects: Olefin and SRU (sulfur distillation unit), has been very satisfactory and will become operational once the obstacles are removed.

He said that he was present in Ilam Province during the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq war and witnessed firsthand the hardships the province's residents had to endure during those years.

Norouzzadeh recalled that Ilam Petrochemical Company played an important role in eliminating the difficulties in the province and has made considerable contribution to creating employment among the local residents.

About 90 percent of the work at Ilam Petrochemical Complex was completed. The project has the capacity to produce 450,000 tons of ethylene a year.
