Belarusian, Iranian banks to step up cooperation

Belarusian and Iranian banks intend to advance cooperation, representatives of the Association of Belarusian Banks told BelTA.

A delegation of top Iranian bank executives led by Mostafa Beheshtiruy, a member of the General Council for Islamic Banks and Financial Institutions (CIBAFI) and officials of Bank Pasargad visited the Association of Belarusian Banks.

The head of the Iranian delegation expressed strong interest in advancing cooperation with Belarusian banks. It will help bolster trade and economic ties and increase Belarus-Iran trade, he said.

"The negotiations focused on the state and prospects of development of the Belarusian and Iranian banking systems," expressed the official.

Opinions were exchanged about the role of professional banking associations in protecting the rights and legal interests of their members and coordinating their activities.

The Iranian colleagues spoke highly of the association's work to improve banking regulations, address problems in the course of operation of Belarusian banks, develop digital banking, increase the share of cashless transfers, and improve the financial literacy of Belarusians.

The Association of Belarusian Banks was established in 1990 with a view to coordinating the operation of credit and finance institutions. At present it comprises 36 banks and organizations.
