According to Fars News Agency, Kheirollah Khademi, the head of the Construction and Development of Transportation Infrastructure Company of Iran said on Saturday that the Rasht-Astara railway line will be inaugurated by March but plans to run passenger services on the route will be delayed.
The railroad is a segment of the International North-South Transport Corridor which will connect Northern Europe with Southeast Asia.
The corridor will serve as a link between the railways of Azerbaijan, Iran and Russia.
In the initial stage, the route will transport five million tons of cargo per year and this figure will gradually rise to over 10 million tons.
