Austrian delegation in northeast Iran to forge economic ties

An Austrian delegation is in the northeastern Iranian city of Mashhad, Khorasan Razavi Province, to discuss expansion of economic, scientific and trade relations between Iran and Austria, said a local official on Sunday.

The delegation, which is co-headed by Austrian Ambassador to Iran Stefan Scholz and the country's Deputy Economy Minister Josef Mayer, arrived in Mashhad on Saturday, said the caretaker of Mashhad Municipality's public and international relations directorate, Hossein Keshiri, IRNA reported.

He said the Austrian team has met the representative of Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs in northwestern Iran, Gholam-Abbas Khales, Mashhad Mayor Qassem Taqizadeh Khamesi and members of the province's chamber of commerce. It is also scheduled to hold a number of other meetings during the trip, he noted.

The delegation also visited the holy shrine of Imam Reza (PBUH), the eighth Shia Imam, as well as some of the museums and industrial units of the city, he added.

The delegation will be leave Mashhad today, Keshiri said.

Austria is a central European state which ranked 14th in the world in 2015 in terms of national wealth and GDP.
