A man kidnapped by a group of criminals was freed within five days after he was taken hostage, Police Chief of Sarbaz, Sistan-Baluchestan Province said on Sunday.

Immediately upon receiving the report by Iran's police emergency center 110 on the hostage-taking in Sarbaz, they began investigating the case, Colonel Siamak Moradi said, IRNA reported.

Following extensive investigation and intelligence monitoring, the location of the hostage was discovered, and the rescue operation began in coordination with the judiciary officials, the colonel said.

The hostage-takers then fled as they could not confront police forces, he said, and the hostage who was a 30-year-old man, was freed by police.
