Abolfazl Mokarramifar, who was speaking on Monday in a meeting with Chairman of the Republic of Tatarstan's State Committee on Tourism Sergey Ivanov, noted that Kazan, the republic's capital, will be the third Russian city after Moscow and Saint Petersburg to become a tourist destination for Iranians in view of the MoU signed between Iran and Tatarstan, IRNA wrote.
Noting that Khorasan Razavi is the hub of Iran's religious tourism, he added that out of 1.6 billion Muslims, 0.4 billion Shia Muslims are interested in visiting its capital Mashhad.
There are 1.2 million historical sites in Iran, of which 50,000 are located in Khorasan Razavi, he said, pointing out that 1,600 of the mentioned sites have been registered in Iran.
In view of the direct flights between Tehran and Moscow as well as Mashhad and Moscow, Khorasan Razavi is ready to become a tourist destination for Kazan, Mokarramifar said.
Ivanov also expressed willingness to boost relations between Khorasan Razavi and Kazan.
Holding Iran's exclusive tourism exhibition in Kazan, the readiness of universities to organize short-term tourism, ecotourism and hoteliering courses and inviting Ivanov to attend Mashhad tourism exhibition were among topics discussed in the meeting.
The two sides also inked MoUs on developing tourism.
