Iran claims Takhti Cup FS title

Iran was crowned champion at the International Freestyle Wresting Takhti Cup in Tabriz, north-west Iran, collecting 16 medal including four golds.

On Friday, Omid Hassan-Tabar outclassed his Hungarian opponent in the final bout to win the 79kg gold medal while Kamran Qasempour beat the Turkish wrestler 5-4 in the 86kg final to win Iran’s second gold of the night.

Additionally, Amir Mohammadi outmuscled European champion Riza Yildirim from Turkey 6-1 to claim the 97kg gold.

Also on the final day of the competitions, Parviz Hadi overcame Ja’far Shams 3-0 in an all-Iranian 125kg final to take Iran’s gold tally to four.

Nader Haj-Aqa-Nia (57kg), Mohammad Ramezanpour (61kg) Morteza Qiasi (65kg) and Arashk Mohebbi (92kg) also settled for four silver medals after suffering defeats in the final bouts.

Mohammad Maleki (61kg), Behnam Ehsanpour (65kg), Hamed Rashidi (74kg), Mohammad Mottaqi-Nia (79kg), Mas’oud Madadi (86kg), Mohammad-Javad Ebrahimi (92kg) and Ahmad Mirzapour (125kg) came out victorious in the third-place playoffs of their weight classes to win nine bronze medals.

A total of 16 medals and 200 points gave Iran a first-place finish at the end of the of competitions while Turkey claimed the runner-up spot with 143 points and Georgia finished third with 84 points.

A total of 160 wrestlers, representing fifteen countries, took part at the 38th edition of the competitions on February 8-9.
