Leader of Gonabadi Dervishes condemns crimes on north Tehran street

Leader of Gonabadi Dervishes (A Sufi Muslim order) Nour Ali Tabandeh in a statement on Wednesday strongly condemned actions of some rioters which led to the martyrdom of three policemen and two members of Basij (volunteer) forces on Pasdaran street.

He also called for prosecution of those involved in the incident, IRNA reported.

The statement read 'In recent days, bitter incidents took place around my residence in defiance of religious and mystic principles under false excuses .... that made me sad. Negligence, wrong judgment and failure to abide by my direct orders and advice on the part of some dervishes caused the incidents which we do not verify at all. We condemn such behaviors.'

He said 'The incidents in which some members of disciplinary, IRGC and Basij forces lost their lives bereaved me and other devotees. I hereby extend my condolences to the families of the victims and pray to God Almighty to let their souls rest in peace.'

He said the if a person whether a Dervish or not, is killed in an unfair manner, he will be sad.

The statement also quoted Tabandeh as saying that he has nothing to do with provocative material posted by certain websites and called on all devotees to follow his direct orders instead of those attributed to him on some websites.

In one of the streets of northern Tehran, there was a riot on Monday night. The riot was subdued by the security forces after a few hours and the main instigators were arrested, according to spokesman of the Iranian police Saeed Montazerolmahdi.

In addition to the five security forces, who were killed in separate car-ramming attacks and stabbing on Monday night, 30 others were injured in the protest.
