According to figures released by World Steel Association (WSA), China topped the list of crude steel producers during the first month of 2018 with an output of 67 million tons.
Subsequent rankings pertained to Japan, India the United States and South Korea with productions of 9.03 million tons, 9.028 million tons, 6.82 million tons and 6.125 million tons respectively, the report said.
Global steel production in January amounted to 139.44 million tons, which shows a growth of 1.35 percent compared to the output for December of 2017 which reached 137.57 million tons.
WSA is the international trade body of the iron and steel industry. The association represents approximately 170 steel producers, including 17 of the world's 20 largest steel companies, national and regional steel industry associations and steel research institutes.
Its members account for around 85 percent of global steel production.
