Jahangiri: Gov't will safeguard economic stability

The government will not allow the economic stability of the country to be harmed by external shocks and domestic hypes, said First Vice President, Es'haq Jahangiri in a meeting of Headquarters for Resistance Economy on Monday.

Economic stability is one of the most important economic achievements of Iran, said Jahangiri, noting this will be safeguarded and sustained through strong and coherent management policies, IRNA reported.

Pointing to the formation of 12 national committees to attain the goals of resistance economy during the Iranian year which ended on March 20, Jahangiri said the headquarters must seriously follow up the decisions of these committees to formulate and implement the priority plans of the resistance economy.

He underlined that the warnings and guidelines of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei should be taken seriously in order to turn the threats into opportunities.

The first vice president said one of the ways to support Iranian goods is to combat smuggling, adding that that the government has drawn up a list of major contraband goods and commodities which were smuggled into the country last year to concentrate on fighting smuggling.

Also addressing the meeting, Iranian government spokesman Mohammad Baqer Nobakht said that the current situation of the foreign exchange market is against the government's desire.

He added that a headquarters was set up on the orders of President Hassan Rouhani to control the foreign exchange market.

He also announced that new policies will be developed new policies to control the foreign exchange market, saying that these policies will be implemented in the coming days.

"We will use the great capacities of the system to balance this market," Nobakht added.
