Iran’s ‘Searing Summer’ to compete in Beijing festival

Iranian film ‘Searing Summer’ is one of the films shortlisted for the Tiantan Award, the main Competition Section of the 8th Beijing International Film Festival this year.

Directed by Ebrahim Irajzad, the film is scheduled to compete with two Chinese films and 13 other films from around the world, reported.

Like ‘Children of Heaven’ and other Iranian films we know very well, the ‘Searing Summer’ also focuses on social issues in Iran. However, this time, the director Ebrahim Irajzad has focused lens on ordinary families and women in Iran and presented the struggle and strong mind of women in the society of the Middle East country.

The film depicts the story of Nasrin who has a six-year-old daughter and a husband fooling around. For this reason, her life gets harder and harder. Though persuaded by her family members once and again, she makes up her mind to work at a nursery with a whole heart. Thanks to the job, Nasrin gets to know Sara, also a young mother. The two young mothers already lead a very hard life. However, nobody knows a seemingly destined accident kills the three-year-old son of Sara, which plunges their lives into a dimmer, more desperate situation.

The 8th edition of the festival opens today and will run until April 22 in Beijing.

Beijing International Film Festival consists of seven major sections including Tiantan Award selection, Opening Ceremony, Beijing Film Panorama, Theme Forum, Film Market, Film Carnival and Closing & Awards Ceremony, as well as hundreds of relevant activities.
