Attar was an Iranian Muslim poet, theoretician, and philosopher who had long lasting impact on Persian poetry.
Born in Neyshabour, Khorasan Razavi Province in c.1142 and martyred in c. 1221, Attar embarked on poetic works during the rule of the Seljuk dynasty and his verses were mostly inspired by the Persian Sufi poet Rumi.
Attar’s talent for perception of deeper meanings beyond superficial appearances enabled him to turn details of everyday life into illustrations of his thoughts.
