President Rouhani: Persian language, part of Iran’s historical entity

Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani in a message to the ‘First International Conference of Persian Language and Iranian-Islamic Thought on Farid al-Din attar Neyshaburi: Life, Works and Thought’ which was read by Iran’s Culture Minister Abbas Salehi, said Persian language is part of Iran’s historical entity as well as Muslim world’s culture and civilization.

“Persian language was and is the language of knowledge, religion, art and literature in several part of the world. Contemplating literary works of Iranian poet Attar is a strong proof for this claim.

Persian language and Iranian-Islamic thought are filled with many dynamic scientific-cultural elements that not only enlightens our past heritage but also sheds light on our present and future, the president said in his message, reported.

Attar was an Iranian Muslim poet, theoretician, and philosopher who had long lasting impact on Persian poetry.

Born in Neyshabour, Khorasan Razavi Province in c.1142 and martyred in c. 1221, Attar embarked on poetic works during the rule of the Seljuk dynasty and his verses were mostly inspired by the Persian Sufi poet Rumi.

Attar’s talent for perception of deeper meanings beyond superficial appearances enabled him to turn details of everyday life into illustrations of his thoughts.
