Minister: Iran, Iraq share deep-rooted cultural commonalties

Deep and extensive cultural commonalties between Iran and Iraq require officials to make necessary planning for further expansion of all-out cultural ties between the two countries, said Iran's culture minister.

Abbas Salehi, who was addressing a gathering at Iranian Embassy in Baghdad, further underlined the importance of introducing Iranian cultural products to Iraqi cultural markets, IRNA wrote.

The meeting was attended by Iran's Ambassador to Iraq Iraj Masjedi, officials of Iran Cultural Center and experts from Iran's Culture Ministry.

The minister said that choosing Iraq as the destination of his first overseas trip since taking office as Iran's culture minister showed the importance he attached to cultural relations between the two countries.

Salehi hoped that his trip would lead to a new era of cooperation in the fields of art and culture between the two neighboring states.

The Iranian ambassador outlined the steps taken by the embassy to promote Tehran-Baghdad cultural ties and voiced the embassy's readiness to cooperate closely with the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance in this regard.

Salehi, accompanied by some of his deputies, arrived in Baghdad on Monday afternoon for a four-day visit.
