Iran’s Alireza Jahanbakhsh said he is highly determined to shine at the 2018 World Cup in Russia when the competition gets underway next June.
The Dutch club AZ Alkmaar’s winger was on fire last Wednesday in the 4-3 beating of Vitesse, scoring a hat-trick and making an assist witch took the 24-year-old Iranian to the top of Eredivisie’s scoring chart with 18 goals and second in assist chart with 12.
“We’ve been having a great season at AZ Alkmaar. We are now secured a place at next year’s Europa League and play at the cup final this week,” said Jahanbakhsh – whose team squares off against the Dutch giant Feyenoord in the KNVB Cup final on Sunday.
When asked about Wednesday night’s game the Iranian international said, “It was my first career hat-trick and the fans gave me a huge ovation during the game. My teammates and manager also congratulated me after the match,”
Speaking about next June’s World Cup, Jahanbakhsh said, “It will be my second World Cup and I’m so grateful to have the chance to play at the competition at such a young age,”
“After a great season with AZ, I’m really excited and motivated for the tournament. All of us at the team are eager to show Iranian football’s quality to the world. World Cup is place for the best teams in every continent and we’ve proved to be the best team in Asia over the recent years,”
Giving a hint at what the future holds for the Iranian talent after the competition in Russia, Jahanbakhsh said, “Last year I had some good offers but decided to stay for one more season. Now I think the right time has come for me to make a new step in my career.”
