Iran ready to swap Turkmenistan gas bound for Pakistan

Iran is ready to swap Turkmenistan gas destined for Pakistan, a deputy oil minister said.

According to IRNA, Hamidreza Araqi referred to improbability of completing the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India Pipeline (TAPI) and said in view of its location, Iran can be a partner in any pipeline project which traverses its territory.

Iran is the best route for transferring Turkmenistan gas to Pakistan, Araqi said adding that the country can carry out this process very fast.

Iran is now swapping Turkmenistan gas bound for Azerbaijan on the basis of which the country receives Turkmen gas at its border and delivers the same amount of gas to Azerbaijan.

The Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India Pipeline, also known as Trans-Afghanistan Pipeline, is a natural gas pipeline being developed by the Galkynysh – TAPI Pipeline Company Limited with the participation of Asian Development Bank.
