Rouhani: Iran’s commitment to JCPOA contingent upon that of other signatories

President Hassan Rouhani said today that Iran’s commitment to the nuclear deal will be contingent upon the commitment of other signatories to the deal.

He made the statement after US President Donald Trump announced that he has withdrawn from the nuclear deal signed between Iran and 5+1 countries known as Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

I have ordered the foreign ministry to talk with the European countries, China and Russia within the coming weeks and if we gain what we wanted through JCOPA, despite impolite statements of Trump, we will stay in the deal, and we can take our steps towards regional and international peace, else I will inform the people of the decision of the Iranian government, he said

Trump said in a televise speech today he would reimpose economic sanctions that were waived when the deal was signed in 2015. The move goes against advice from his European allies and some military advisers.

From now on JCPOA is between Iran and only 5 countries. We should see how the five big countries will treat the deal, Rouhani said.

We will wait and talk with our friends and the signatories to the deal, if it guarantees our interests we will remain within the deal, else we will decide otherwise.

He added, we have prepared ourselves for this situation and will put this stage behind.

JCPOA is a deal approved by the United Nations, he said, Trump has withdrawn from an international deal.

The only regime that supported Trump’s stance tonight is the Zionist regime of Israel.

I have ordered the foreign ministry to talk with the European countries, China and Russia and if we gain what we wanted through JCOPA, despite impolite statements of Trump we will stay in the deal, else we will decide otherwise, he said.
