Zimbabwe urges energy cooperation with Iran

Zimbabwe has called for cooperation and investment by Iranian companies in the fields of energy and information technology.

Zimbabwe's President's Chief Advisor Christopher Mutsvangwa said in a meeting with Iran's Ambassador to Zimbabwe Ahmad Erfanian that friendly relations between the two countries date back to the era of freedom struggles in Zimbabwe and these ties form the backbone for boosting cooperation in various fields, IRNA reported.

Iran has numerous capabilities and capacities for mutual cooperation and Zimbabwe can use Iran as a gateway to Central Asia and Caucasus, Mutsvangwa said.

Erfanian hailed the friendly ties between the two countries and voiced Iran's readiness to boost its ties with the country in all fields, particularly economy and trade.

Currently, Iranian firms are engaged in various projects in Zimbabwe including power plant, transportation and producing paint, he said, noting that Iran's fruit exports to Zimbabwe increased threefold in 2017.
