Iran, Sri Lanka ink cooperation documents

The Islamic Republic of Iran and the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka signed four memoranda of understanding and one document on cultural exchanges in the presence of the presidents of the two countries on Sunday.

The agreements deal with cooperation on fighting drugs, health and medicine, standard, film industry, and program of cultural exchanges between the two countries for a period of three years to further deepen bilateral relations, IRNA reported.

The documents were signed in the presence of President Hassan Rouhani of the Islamic Republic of Iran and President Maithripala Sirisena of Sri Lanka.

The Sri Lankan president arrived in Tehran on Sunday and was officially welcomed by President Rouhani at Sa'dabad Historical-Cultural Complex.

The trip aims to promote relations between two countries.

Holding talks and signing of documents are on the Sri Lankan delegation’s itinerary.

Rouhani had earlier met with Sirisena at Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) summit in Bangkok on October 10, 2016.
