Major General Mohammad Baqeri made the remarks Sunday in a meeting with Defense Minister of Afghanistan Lieutenant General Tariq Shah Bahrami, IRNA wrote.
Referring to Iran-Afghanistan religious, historical and lingual commonalties, Baqeri said there are no significant issues between the two countries.
Since the occupation forces’ retreat from Afghanistan, Iran has spared no effort to help protect Afghanistan, he said.
Issues regarding Iran-Afghanistan border security was to be addressed during the meeting, he added.
Shah Bahrami expressed happiness with his visit to Iran, saying that he felt himself at his second home.
He also appreciated Iran’s aids in difficult situations.
“We are in Iran for talk on enhancing mutual friendly relations and ridding the Afghan people of terrorism,” he noted.
Shah Bahrami expressed hope that peace, stability and security would be established in Afghanistan and the region.
Developing military ties and defense cooperation and safeguarding borders were among other topics discussed by both sides.
Shah Bahrami arrived in Tehran on Saturday for talks with Iranian authorities.
Iran and Afghanistan have a 936-kilometer long joint border, and their annual trade exchanges stand at $2.2 billion worth.
