Veteran Iranian newscaster Afshar dies

Veteran Iranian newscaster Qassem Afshar, who is known for presenting news in the early years of the 1979 Islamic Revolution and during Iran-Iraq war (1980-1988), died at the age of 67 due to cardiac arrest.

He was born in Iran's southern city of Abadan and graduated in psychology, ISNA reported.

Another newscaster Mohammadreza Hayati said that Afshar was a great friend of his, adding that they almost began news casting at about the same time.

Hayati said when he heard about Afshar's death, he just wished the news would be a rumor spread in cyberspace.
