IRNA ready for fostering media ties with Russia

It is proper time today to promote international, regional and bilateral cooperation between Iranian and Russian media, head of the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) said in this Russian port city.

Media cooperation should be developed in different parts of the world in order to counter the West, particularly the US' media domination, Zia Hashemi said in a meeting with his counterpart from TASS Russian News Agency Sergei Mikhailov.

Talking on the threats posed by unreasonable behavior of the US President Donald Trump to the global peace and security, Hashemi underlined the importance of creating a new media atmosphere to fight the dangers.

Mikhailov, too, said in the meeting that TASS has had cooperation with IRNA since half a century ago.

Pointing to an agreement on cooperation signed by the two news agencies in 2009 focusing of exchange of correspondents, Mikhailov called for working towards its development.

He added he is ready to plan a media tour to Iran to get familiar with capacities in the country and then introduce them to the world through Russian media.

IRNA chief is in St. Petersburg to attend an international conference of world news agencies which started on Friday in this Russian port city.
