Rouhani: Iran will never make concession on its independence

President Hassan Rouhani said on Wednesday that Iran will never make any concession on its independence in the face of pressure by the United States.

“We must show to the world that we endure hardships but will not make concessions on our independence and freedom,” Rouhani told a gathering of top executives in Tehran that was broadcast live by national TV.

Rouhani said the Iranian people “will not yield in to the US” and must stand together in order to “bring the US to its knees”.

Rouhani’s comments follow the US withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal and its threats to reimpose anti-Iran sanctions under the landmark agreement.

Rouhani noted that Iranians, through their resistance, will make the “bullying” president of the United States to understand that he chose a wrong way by pulling out of the nuclear agreement.

US President Donald Trump announced on May 8 that Washington was walking away from the Iran nuclear deal and that he would impose "the highest level" of economic bans on the Islamic Republic.

Under the deal, Iran undertook to put limits on its nuclear program in exchange for the removal of nuclear-related sanctions imposed against Tehran.

Rouhani stressed that his government will not step down.

“Whoever thinks that the government will resign under pressure is wrong,” he said.
