North Korea needs guarantee for US sanctions removal: Analyst

North Korea needs assurances from the United States to get sanctions relief before a complete denuclearization given Washington’s history of broken promises, says an analyst.

“What the DPRK wants here is a guarantee that those sanctions are actually going to be removed. What they do not want to do is go ahead and remove their nuclear weaponry only to find the US turn around and not live up to its end of the agreement, which is something that the United States has done quite frequently, the JCPOA agreement [Iran nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action] is a perfect example,” Jason Unruhe told Press TV in an interview on Sunday.

“The fact is that the DPRK has no real reason to trust the United States in this situation given their dishonorable actions in the past regarding matters like this. DPRK needs some kind of assurances that they will actually get the sanctions relief that are promised to them,” he added, referring to North Korea by another name.
