Prime of Chinese festival goes to Iran’s 'Leaf of Life'

Iranian movie 'Leaf of Life', directed by Ebrahim Mokhtari, was selected as top film at the 2018 Asian Art Week on Tourism and Film held in Taizhou, a coastal city in east China's Zhejiang Province.

The movie narrates the story of a documentary filmmaker who wants to make a film about the dangers facing the cultivation of saffron in Iran, IRNA wrote.

Mokhtari presented a brief history of Iran's film industry and cinema for Chinese audiences.

According to Xinhua, the art week held in China sought to promote tourism and cultural exchanges across Asian countries, as well as showcase Taizhou's latest achievements in the film and tourism industries.

The art week was co-organized by the China TV Artists Association, the Zhejiang Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film, and Television and the Taizhou government.

Authorities hope the festival will give a welcome lift to local tourism and film industries.

During the international event, a series of forums, symposiums and exhibitions were held. This year, the event attracted more than 1,200 films and television works from 23 countries including the US, France, Russia and Japan.

Filmmakers from 30 countries including Australia, Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia and Azerbaijan attended the closing ceremonies.

Beijing International Film Festival, Shanghai International Film Festival and Asian Art Week on Tourism and Film are the important film festivals held in China each year.

Taizhou is one of the hottest filming spots in China. Hundreds of film and TV works have been produced in the city in recent years, Xinhua reported.
