Hatami, who arrived in Beijing on Thursday on an official visit, made the remarks in a meeting with Chinese State Councilor and Minister of National Defense General Wei Fenghe on Friday, IRNA reported.
The Iranian defense minister pointed to the ongoing insecurity in the region and said, "We believe that security is a seamless [issue] and insecurity in the West Asian region has not only affected the surrounding areas but also other parts of the world.”
During the meeting, Iranian and Chinese military officials also exchanged views about ways to boost defense and military cooperation, joint fight against terrorism and efforts to help establish global peace and stability as well as the latest developments in the Middle East and across the world.
Hatami further said Tehran and Beijing have historical and cultural commonalities and added, "The two countries have common interests and threats and can expand cooperation in this framework", Press TV reported.
The Chinese defense minister said Tehran and Beijing share a view to develop cordial relations.
As a developing country, China is ready to boost interaction with Iran, he added.
In November 2016, former Iranian defense minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan and the Chinese defense chief signed an agreement in Tehran to boost defense-military cooperation and fight terrorism.
Iran and China have close diplomatic, economic, trade and energy ties, and in recent years have developed their military relations.
