Iran bags double silvers at world junior shooting meet

Iran collected two silver medals at the 2018 ISSF World Championship All Events in South Korea.

On Friday, Iran’s Amir-Mohammad Nekounam finished second in the men’s junior 10m air rifle contests.

It took an additional shoot-off to decide the champion of the discipline as India’s Hriday Hazarika and Nekounam battled fiercely for the top spot and finished tied at 250.1 points after shot number 24.

With the gold medal on the line, the Indian shooter – a gold medalist at this year’s Junior World Cup in Suhl, Germany – fired a great 10.3, barley prevailing over Nekounam’s 10.2 and securing the top prize.

Grigorii Shamakov of the Russia settled for the bronze with the best tally of 228.6 points.

In addition, Iran – comprising Nekounam, Amir-Siavash Zolfaqarian and Mohammad-Hossein Sharifzadeh – also came second in the team rankings of the category with a total score of 1874.3 points – following China which set a new world record of 1876.2pts for the gold.

Russia took the bronze, scoring 1873.7pts.

Having started on August 31, the 52nd edition of the competition will finish in the South Korean city of Changwon on September 15.
