Iranian short film, animation to participate in Swedish fest

Iranian short film 'Umbra', directed by Saeed Jafarian, and short animated movie 'Maned & Macho', directed by Shiva Sadeq-Asadi, were accepted for the competition section of the 37th Uppsala International Short Film Festival in Sweden.

The two award-winning works will compete with 77 other titles in the international competition section of the Swedish fest, reported.

'Umbra' narrates the story of a young woman who, a few minutes after midnight, realizes that her partner has gone missing. Worried, she goes out to look for her partner in the street.

'Maned & Macho' is an exquisitely hand-painted 11-minute animation about a teenage girl who refrains from accepting the social role she is meant to play. In this animated movie the girl's repressed feelings and emotions are depicted in the form of animals.

The 37th edition of the Swedish festival will be held from October 22-28, 2018. A total of 300 short films will be screened at four movie theaters in central Uppsala.

Founded in 1982, Uppsala International Short Film Festival has since become Sweden's premier arena for short films, having attained both national recognition of the Swedish Film Institute and genuine international renown.

In addition, the festival is the most important international cultural event in Uppsala.

Every year the festival screens more than 300 short films in five sections exploring the diversity and richness of the works.

The festival is recognized by Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which means that winning the international or national competition at the festival makes a film eligible for a nomination for an Oscar.
