Iranian steelmakers cast 16.4 million tons of crude steel during the first eight months of 2018, showing a rise of 21.6 percent compared to the figure for the same period in 2017, which was 13.51 million tons.

Based on the report, the second to ninth places went to India, Japan, the US, South Korea, Russia, Germany, Turkey and Brazil with 71.14 million tons, 70.19 million tons, 56.9 million tons, 48.33 million tons, 48.26 million tons, 30.25 million tons, 25.16 million tons and 23.23 million tons respectively.

In August, Iran produced 1.98 million tons of crude steel showing an increase of nine percent from the figure for the same month of 2017, which was 1.82 million tons.

World crude steel production reached 1.19 billion tons for the first eight months of 2018 — up 5.4 percent compared to the amount for the same duration in 2017, which was 1.13 billion tons.

According to the Islamic Republic's Vision Plan, total steel production capacity is to hit 55 million tons a year by 2025, with an expected exports figure of 10-15 million tons.

The World Steel Association is one of the largest and most dynamic industry associations in the world. WSA members represent approximately 85 percent of the world's steel production, including over 150 steel producers with nine of the 10 largest steel companies, national and regional steel industry associations, and steel research institutes.
