At least seven people lost their lives after heavy floods hit Iran’s northern provinces of Mazandaran, Gilan, Golestan and North Khorasan on Friday, ISNA reported.
The deaths were reported in the provinces of Mazandaran, Gilan and North Khorasan.
Tasnim News Agency reported that one person was killed by lightning in the city of Sari and a taxi driver died in Chaloos after mistakenly going into the floods and drowning, while two others died in the floods in Mazandaran.
Authorities said that heavy rainfall caused flooding in residential areas in different parts of Mazandaran Province and some houses were damaged in the cities of Amol and Babol. The electricity was cut off in the central and eastern regions of Mazandaran Province.
Cellphone communication networks were interrupted in some parts of Ramsar in the province and telephone lines were disconnected in most parts of the city.
The floods in the provinces of Mazandaran, Gilan and Golestan destroyed roads, houses and bridges, and caused heavy damage to the infrastructure.
Iran’s Rescue and Relief Organization announced that rescue operators have been dispatched to the flood-hit areas.
Northwestern Ardabil Province witnessed the year’s first snowfall.
