Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said promoting trade ties with Eurasian countries is among the goals of his trip to Turkey.

“Expansion of trade among Eurasian countries and how they can facilitate cooperation are the goals of this trip,” he said.

Accompanied by a delegation of Iranian lawmakers, Larijani left Tehran on Monday for the resort city of Antalya, southwest of Turkey, for the Eurasian conference.

Upon his arrival, Larijani met with Russia’s Vyacheslav Volodin, the speaker of the State Duma, and called for bilateral and multilateral action to counter ‘US problematic behavior’ in world affairs.

“US creates hassles for all countries, something that calls for multilateral cooperation,” Larijani said.

Larrijani expressed satisfaction about Iran-Russia relations, adding that bilateral oil and banking cooperation are progressing.

Volodin, for his part, described Iran as ‘an important country’ for Russia, urging the expansion of parliamentary relations between the two sides.

Speaking to reporters before his departure, Larijani said the forum is a good opportunity for member states to explore avenues to promote trade.

“Expansion of trade among Eurasian countries and how they can facilitate cooperation are the goals of this trip,” he said.

The speaker described the forum as a good initiative that can become one of the leading platforms for discussion in Eurasia if used to the full extent.

“We welcomed the idea of this meeting ever since the Russian Duma apprised Iran of (the idea to have such a forum),” he added.

During his trip, the Iranian Parliament speaker will hold meetings with the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Binali Yildirim and a number of other foreign counterparts.

Starting October 8, the four-day meeting will discuss a number of topics related to the promotion of economic and environmental cooperation and sustainable development issues in Eurasian countries.

Attending the forum will be representatives of parliaments of more than 40 countries in Europe and Asia, and also a number of international organizations.

The first meeting of the Speakers of the Parliaments of Eurasia was held in Moscow in 2016. The second one was hosted by Seoul, South Korea in 2017.
