Iranian playwright Koohestani to direct 'Macbeth' in Germany

Iranian playwright Amir Reza Koohestani will direct the rehearsal of an adaptation of Shakespeare's 'Macbeth' in Germany which is to begin from October 15.

Koohestani is invited to undertake the role by Matthias Lilienthal, the artistic director of Münchner Kammerspiele which is a state-funded German-language theater, reported ISNA on Friday.

According to Mehr Theater Group, 'Macbeth' is the seventh work to be directed by Koohestani in Germany and his third cooperation with the German group.

Benjamin Craig, a renowned German video artist, will produce the videos for the play while Pollyester, an electronic music band, will compose the play's lyrics and soundtracks.

Both Iranian and German actors are included in the cast of 'Macbeth' which will go on stage from early December.

In addition, the playwright will stage 'Summerless' in mid-October in the host country.

'Summerless' went on stage in Europe in May. It was first staged at Festival delle Colline Torinesi in Turin, Italy and then performed at the Avignon Theater Festival in southeast France in July.
