Announcing this, Hossein Shirzad, the deputy agriculture minister and the head of the Central Organization for Rural Cooperatives of Iran (CORC) said that his organization has paved the ground for exporting saffron to European markets, corc.ir reported.
"Supporting sustainable saffron value chain and improving its value added are among our goals," Shirzad added.
Iran's current share in the global saffron market is low, he said, adding that it is expected that CORC and FAO will conduct studies on saffron cultivation to develop a comprehensive plan for saffron cultivation and processing.
The introduction of a national brand in Iran's saffron in target markets, the presence of Iranian merchants to gain greater global market share will be among the objectives of the plan, Shirzad concluded.
