Iran’s Navy commander calls for further cooperation with Italy

Iran's Navy Commander Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi on Wednesday called for more cooperation with Italian naval forces.

He made the remarks in a meeting with the Deputy Commander of the Italian Navy on the sidelines of a special meeting of the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) in India.

Khanzadi stressed the need for the two countries’ navies to exchange maritime capacities in all areas, saying this could be done by exchanging cadets and officers.

Referring to the presence of Italian flotilla in Iran’s southern port city of Bandar Abas last month, Khanzadi said Iran’s naval fleet will be sent to Italy in the near future in order for enhancement of military cooperation and exchange of experiences.

The Italian commander said that his country is prepared for hosting Iran's naval fleet.

“We are always working to interact with other navy forces in the world, and as a powerful naval force at sea the Iranian Navy can be very important to us and we announce our desire to have interactions with Iran in all areas,” he said.

Khanzadi participated in the three-day special meeting of the IONS in India’s city of Kochi. It was attended by representatives from 32 countries.
