Minister: Iran to broaden cultural ties with other countries

Iran will broaden cultural cooperation with other countries, Iran's Culture Minister Abbas Salehi before leaving Russia after taking part in the Seventh St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum.

He added that Iran's active participation in major international cultural events indicates the country's drive to broaden cultural cooperation with the world, IRNA reported.

Salehi pointed out that Russia promotes cooperation with other countries by expanding cultural cooperation and activities and the current international cultural event is part of this strategy.

He also hoped that the outcome of his current visit to be quite tangible in broadening ties between the two states.

Iran, good place to show Hermitage Museum works

Salehi said in a meeting with the curator of that Russia's Hermitage Museum Michael Piotrowski in St. Petersburg that the museum can send artworks to Iran to further boost cultural relations.

Before leaving Russia, Salehi visited the museum and announced that some of the Hermitage Museum's works could be exhibited in Iran and brought to light some of the works of Iranian museums displayed in the Hermitage.

"The Hermitage has created a good opportunity and space for experts of Iranian history and cultures as its curator, an orientologist, has made Hermitage an important cultural base for Iran and Russia," he noted, adding that Iran-Russia cultural relations have old roots in Hermitage Museum and this reality is well observed.

Salehi added, "Iranian counterparts also want to develop cooperation," underlining that it is possible to increase the scope of Iranian-Russian cultural cooperation using the capacities of Hermitage Museum.
