Iran condemned the new round of unilateral sanctions by US Treasury Department on a number of Iranian and foreign firms and individuals, saying they have been imposed under "false pretexts."

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi, in a statement, said on Wednesday, “The futile, irrational and ineffective sanctions against legal and natural persons will definitely fail to produce the results desired by their designers and enforcers. They will, sooner or later, become aware of the ineffectiveness of what they are thinking of,” according to

The latest sanctions were announced in Tuesday's conference call between reporters and senior US officials.

Among the sanction targets are individuals and companies from Iran, Syria, Russia, and Lebanon, the Treasury Department said.
