Iran, Russia stress promoting synergy among their universities

Iran and Russia highlighted continuation of scientific and research cooperation and promoting synergy between themselves to improve the international status of their universities.

This was called for at the Fourth Rectors' Forum for Top Iranian and Russian Universities held on Saturday on the Persian Gulf island of Kish, attended by the heads and representatives of top level Iranian and Russian universities and a number of the two countries’ academic and university figures, IRNA reported.

Focused on improving the international status of the two countries’ universities, the forum was hosted by the University of Tehran.

Representatives from a total of 31 universities from Iran (13) and Russia (18) participated in the meeting.

In a joint statement issued at the end of the forum, the two sides urged for the continuation of such meetings, improving bilateral scientific, research and educational cooperation and providing each other with sufficient support to raise their scientific and educational levels.

Among the other points stressed in the statement were offering courses on Persian and Russian languages at the universities of the two countries, the holding of the the Fourth Rectors' Forum for Top Iranian and Russian Universities in the Russian capital of Moscow, sharing scientific and educational experiences with each other, using the two sides’ educational capacities and capabilities and expanding bilateral cooperation to improve the international status of the two states’ universities.

In an address to the forum, Chancellor of the University of Tehran Mahmoud Nili Ahmadabadi described as “good” and “useful” the fourth edition of the meeting.

He added the forum in fact complemented the previous editions of the meeting and further cleared the path for enhancing bilateral cooperation and implementing joint projects.

Nili Ahmadabadi also called on the two sides to form a joint consortium and set up an Internet forum for their universities, enabling them to further use each other’s capabilities and capacities.

The first and third edition of the forum was hosted by Moscow. The second edition was held in the Iranian capital of Tehran.
