Airport staff have to deal with all manner of awkward situations.
One of the trickiest areas to work is security, where you are responsible for sifting through hand luggage for banned items, dailystar.co.uk wrote.
In a recent Reddit thread, employees revealed the most bizarre items they’d spotted on the conveyer-belt.
From live animals to human ashes here are their most surprising findings.
A live spider
One Redditor said, “(The) passenger didn't know and wasn't large but he opened his bag, it crawled out, and I screamed.”
A human skull
Disturbingly, a security worker remembered rifling through human remains.
They wrote: “I worked at an airport as a line tech.
“A former baggage screener told me of the time he open a bag and found a human skull.
“The passenger was a doctor and had all the appropriate paperwork to transport the skull, but it was still surreal.”
A mortified employee confessed to finding ‘human ashes’ in a customer’s suitcase.
A garden gnome
A cheeky passenger recalled the moment they took a garden ornament through security.
The Redditor said, “My brother and his friend ‘borrowed’ a lawn gnome from my mom’s evil roommate.
“They both heard the TSA guy say, ‘Is that a gnome?’ as it went through the scanner. No one said anything though.”
Many holidaymakers bring food items home as souvenirs, although some of their choices are a little odd.
An employee remembered finding ‘poorly sealed jars of rotting blended fish’.
A taxidermy chicken
One traveler revealed how airport staff reacted to him taking a taxidermy chicken onto the plane.
The Reddit user admitted, “I found a taxidermy chicken on a trip, and had to buy it. Then I had to get her home. Well, she wouldn't fit in my suitcase, so I had to carry her in my arms.
“It was a really busy travel day, and that chicken amused everyone. Absolutely every person in line suddenly wasn't grumpy anymore.
“TSA all laughed, especially when she had to go through the x-ray and passengers who were irritated at lines started smiling.”
A crack pipe
Smuggling drugs and related contraband is risky business.
An employee revealed a customer “pulled (a crack pipe) out of his pocket right before going into the body scanner”.
Following this incident, “airport police came and got him”.
Two small dogs
Live animals shouldn’t be put onto the conveyer-belt, but this doesn’t stop some passengers.
One onlooker recalls, “I was waiting in the line at security behind a lady with two bags.
“She puts both bags down on the conveyor belt and opens one up to grab something. One of the dogs decided this was its cue to make itself known and popped its head out the bag.
“The security line was halted and she was asked to open the bags revealing not just the first dog but another one. I really have no idea what was going through her head.”
