12th Cinéma Vérité kicks off in Tehran

Iran's international documentary film festival, known as Cinéma Vérité, opened its 12th edition in the capital city of Tehran on Sunday.

According to, the festival will continue until December 16.

Iranian documentary 'For Freedom' by Hossein Torabi opened the 12th edition of the festival on Sunday.

12 Iranian cineastes, including Babak Hamidian and Farhad Aslani, are among the cast and crew of some 71 documentaries participating at the national competition section of the festival.

Cannes-winning documentary 'Samouni Road' by Stefano Savona is also up for screening in the event.

Iran's House of Documentary is reportedly taking part in the festival with eight documentaries.

Organized by the Art and Experimental Cinema, the first edition of the Cinéma Vérité was held in 2007.

Over the past decade it has emerged as one of the important events on Iran's documentary film calendar.

The organizers of the festival said this year's edition is being held concurrently in the cities of Isfahan, Bushehr, Tabriz, Sari and Shiraz in addition to Tehran.
