Iran's 'Skier' gets top award at Greek festival

Iranian movie 'The Skier', directed by Fereydoun Najafi, received the best film award at the 21st Olympia International Film Festival for Children and Young People.

The event was held in Pyrgos, Greece on December 8, IRNA wrote.

The festival, created in 1997, was the outcome of collaboration between the local authorities of Ilia, and Youth Plan — a not-for-profit organization. It is supported and sponsored by Greece's Ministry of Culture and the General Secretariat for Youth.

'The Skier' is an ethno-fictional film that documents vanishing tribal traditions, painting a portrait of the ethnic community of the Bakhtiari people of southwest Iran.

The movie narrates the story of a mountain goat that has taken shelter in a small village and is to be sacrificed for a traditional ceremony. However, a small boy named Jolie decides to save his new pet goat using the cash prize he won in a ski race in the afternoon.

According to The Greek Observer, the festival "combines entertainment with education, introduces young people to cinema and introduces them to the most important, award-winning films from all over the world, while at the same time encouraging them to make their own flicks".
