Europeans have announced that the special purpose vehicle (SPV) will be activated in two to three weeks, said the chief of staff of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.
The special purpose vehicle is a payment mechanism proposed by the European Union with the intention of protecting trade with Iran in spite of US sanctions, IRNA reported.
Addressing reporters on Wednesday after a cabinet meeting, Mahmoud Vaezi said in all of their phone conversations with Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Javad Zarif as well as Iranian ambassadors to their countries and officials, Europeans states’ leaders, foreign ministers and economic officials have voiced no doubt about the imminent activation of the SPV and have designed a mechanism for it.
He made the remarks while commenting on statements by EU foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini, on activating the SPV.
The Europeans have informed us about their problems, the outcomes of their negotiations and US pressures on them, Vaezi said adding, so far, Iran has not noticed any sign indicating that the Europeans are advertently delaying the activation of the SPV.
