The Iranian president’s chief of staff, Mahmoud Vaezi, described the expanding relations between Iran and Turkey as strategic, calling for strengthening of all-out ties between the two neighbors.

He made the remarks in a meeting with Turkey's Finance and Treasury Minister Berat Albayrak on Friday in Ankara, IRNA reported.

The two sides expressed interest in bolstering bilateral economic relations.

Vaezi called for joint efforts to remove hurdles in the way of mutual cooperation between the two countries’ private sectors and businesses.

The Turkish minister described the upcoming high-level meeting of Tehran-Ankara’s strategic partnership as a golden opportunity to reach the $30 billion trade target.

Iran and Turkey have ramped up efforts in recent years to boost bilateral trade, setting a $30-billion annual trade target and signing several agreements to enhance cooperation in various areas.

Turkey is one of Iran’s major trading partners in the region.
